Guitar Tuition & Lap Steel/Hawaiian Guitar Maker

My tuition is on a one to one basis at my home, and cater for any age group. I can cope with most styles with the exception of classical  fingerstyle. I teach Rock, Pop, Blues, C&W, virtually anything from about 1930-2010. As I mentioned on the "About Me" page, I've had a great deal of musical experience over the past 40 years, and I really enjoy passing the knowledge I've gained with my pupils. I try to make the lessons fun and not too stuffy, which makes my students more relaxed and therefore I get better results from them. It's much better if a pupil wants to come rather than being told  that he must. My rates are very reasonable, and last for either half an hour or a full hour.

As well as playing the guitar I also play keyboard, mandolin, banjo, and Hawaiian  Guitar, not all at the same time though. It was while playing the Hawaiian at various venues that I discovered that some people were curious as to, not only what it was but how come such a simple looking instrument could produce such a beautiful sound. After making a few enquiries as to where to buy one, and how much would it cost, I found out that you could buy one, eventually, but the price was rather on the heavy side. So this sparked me off into thinking about designing and making my own. I started constructing them in early 2001 and have sold quite a lot, plus Billy Bowman Music in Cockermouth stocks them, I can make them to your own specifications if you wish i.e. how many pick-ups, controls, frets etc. They are all hand crafted using local Cumbrian woods, Cherry, Ash etc. If you need any further information please don't hesitate to get in touch, I'll be only too pleased to help.  Thank you for your interest!

The picture on the left is the most popular model and has 24 frets/ single humbucker pick-up/ 1 tone control/ 1 volume control, crafted in cherry or ash. Twin pick-up models are also available, plus a 3 octave model, or custom made to  your requirements.

I live and teach in Crosby Villa, Cumbria which  is halfway between Maryport and Aspatria and about 5 miles from Cockermouth.
